Golden Globes Boycotts
The nominees have barely been announced for the Golden Globes, and already celebs are throwing in their “boycott” status, based on the writer’s strike. Here’s what a few celebs had to say on the matter:
Katherine Heigl (nominated for Grey’s): “I’m not crossing the picket line, not unless I’m contractually obliged to do, which, for the Golden Globes, I’m not.”
James McAvoy (Atonement): “I don’t think I’d want to do that. It’s an environment I wouldn’t want to stick my nose into. I’m not from this country and for me to stick my nose and throw my small weight around wouldn’t be right.”
Jeremy Piven (Entourage): “I don’t know about whether or not I’ll be attending because to be honest with you, I don’t know a lot about the rules and limitations of what is happening. I need to look into it. Writers are kind of these unsung heroes. People don’t see how much these guys work and they’re just trying to cover their bases for themselves and for the future. I hope they get what they deserve and I’ll do anything I can to help that.”
So, all these celebs are going to support the writers by not putting on fancy gowns and jewels they didn’t have to pay for anyhow, and not accepting (or giving out) awards they only won because of the writing anyhow. They won’t cross the picket lines, they’ll hold signs for an hour or so, but have any of them given money to help support the writers?
These “unsung heroes” of the business? The actors make ten times what they do, but not many have donated. I’m just saying …. maybe they should put their money where they’re putting their feet (their mouths), help out the writers that have gotten them to where they are.
