John Travolta In Denial About Son’s Autism?
I was over at I’m Not Too Obsessed reading about John Travolta and Kelly Preston trying for a third child. Um okay not sure why they felt the need to announce that. Anywho I ended up clicking on the New York Post article referenced and found this bit-o-information about the couple’s son(Jett) who apparently has autism.
Travolta has either pretended there is nothing wrong with Jett, 15, or claimed his condition is Kawasaki syndrome, a disease characterized by high fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes.
But parents of autistic children say that Travolta should join Sylvester Stallone, Doug Flutie, Jenny McCarthy and Toni Braxton, who all have autistic kids, in raising awareness and research funds to cure the disease.
One magazine editor who has interviewed Travolta more than once says that the star’s son is disabled - and yet he continues to behave as if nothing is wrong.
“Travolta sits there in interviews talking about how Jett loves to read or play sports, but it is clear that the boy can barely do either,” the editor said.
Who knows if this is true but apparently more than one person believes the boy has autism.
The Post seems to think Scientology is to blame
“Scientology is keeping him from acknowledging his son’s autism. They see it as a weakness,” Kenny told Ebner.
According to the Church of Scientology, people with mental illnesses are “degraded” and capable of curing themselves by working harder on the church’s teachings.
Are they getting this child the help and care he needs? And since when is Autism a mental illness? Scientology appears to offer some….odd parameters for health care. The more I read about the religion the stranger it seems.
Let’s all keep a good thought for Jett Travolta.

I know how you feel Margie. I’m trying to remember that there we don’t have solid proof but the story seems valid.

I have worked in a school for autistic children during the last two years. Autism is truly a spectrum disorder with NO cure. Some parents of these children are still in some sort of denial and feel their children will grow up living a life typical of all others. Others have come to grips with the situation and have embraced it. Either way these parents understand they need to have more than just faith. Travolta has the ability to raise awareness in ways that only some people could dream of. Even if it was just to TRULY help his own son.

Really a sad scenario for Jett…..How the parents can be in such denial and apparently refuse to allow Jett special “counseling” and interactive therapies with others is amazing….they’re doing him further harm in their refusal.

oh those scientologists.
so not only is travolta in denial about his sexuality, but he can’t admit to his own son being austistic. but you know what would be the worst, if the kid really wasn’t and he was just ugly– lol.
i work for hollywood zombies (the same people who brought you Garbage Pail Kids) and they have a new set of trading cards that showcase the hollywood undead, as zombies. imagine if travolta was caught dead in a sex sling surrounded by used packaging of lube/poppers and a general smell of santorum in the air. check out john revolta @ http://www.hollywoodzombies.com and see him for the gay bear he truly is. what do you think kelly would say?
“he really does look great in a purple lace thong; those were my favorite.” what a supportive wife!

Travolta is crazy to try for another child. Autism is definetly genetic and he has a very high risk for having another autistic child. Also the age of the father is a robust factor for non-familial autism. A woman who had an older father when she was born is at high risk for having a child with de novo autism.
